Gordon Strachan used the January transfer window to good effect, seven new players joined the ranks of the mighty Boro and so far, everything seems to be falling into place. Chris Killen, Lee Miller, Scot McDonald, Barry Robson, Stephen McManus, Willo Flood and Kyle Naughton have all joined us this window and apparently (So Mr Andre Baccellia Jersey S Gibson himself has said) and eight player is soon to join. Now, people say we are the new Celtic but lets be honest, better the devil you know than the devil you dont. The fact of the matter is that five of these players have all played together before and usually when a host of new players join a team we have the usual sayings; Its going to take time for them to settle in or the players just dont have the understanding to form an effective partnership. Hm, now forgive me if Im wrong but if almost half our team have played with each other before then Im pretty sure that they will know the ins and outs of each other. We saw glimpses of that against Barnsley. First Robson hits him from midfield up towards the strikers, Killen wins the knockdowns and then McDonald will sprint away and score a goal. Now it didnthappenexactly like that on Tuesday but up until the running away through on goal (which will happen when Super Mac is fit) that is whathappened. Ive been told that Killen is a horrible horrible player who doesnt deserve to wear a shirt hes that bad. Bollocks. He may not be the most prolific but he does a hell of a lot for the team. Every single attack that we mustered went through him, every one. He won headers against the defence, he held the ball up and layed it off to our two wingers and overall he just excelled. His first goal arrived as well and by the looks of it (The chip over Steele andunfortunateclearanceof his finish off the line) that wont be the last. The New Zealander himselfAnother player who hasinfinitelyimpre sed me and seemingly all other Boro fans is Willo Flood. The industrious little Irishmen snaps at peoples heals, flies into tackles and then when he does go forward he does it with such menace. He has anextremelygood turn of pace and with trickery to match it he can get a ball on and with the likes of Chris Killen (60) and Lee Miller (62) then goals will come. We all remember the reign of Juninho, how the The Little Chris Banjo Jersey Fella was loved by all. Well, we have a new TLF now and it looks as though his reign will be exactly the same. Theres another reason to scared of the new look Boro, a great threat and horror to other teams. Yes, we have a ginge. And his name, his name is Barry Robson. The midfielder as it turns out, is a typical Scotsman. Primevil and unwilling to take prisoners. He smashed into tackles, ha sels until he gets the ball but he is not just another Lee Cattermole. Robson actually has a touch of cla s. His ball through to ONeil was inch perfect against Barnsley (And no you Tykes, it wasnt offside. You lot just played a failure of an offside trap) and created the goal, all in all a good days work. The wee Scottish gingeAs for the others, time will tell. The other Super Mac (Stephen McManus) seems to be exactly like the old Huth. Or Huth was Super Mac, either way, he looks like a reliable defender and a rock at the back. Wheater just hasnt looked the same since we lost Huth but it would seem that McManus has changed that. Our draw against Ipswich proved this as not only did Wheater get a goal but him and McManus did not put a foot wrong in the whole game. Well, other than 30 seconds at the start. Lee Miller looks to be similar to Killen but with a bit more physical presence and aerialabilityand a bit le s technical and pa sing ability. He did well in his start against Ipswich and perhaps could have had a goal to his name if he had his finishing boots on him. It was his first game though and so can be forgiven. The signing of Kyle Naughton seems to speak for itself. Sheffield United player of the year in his first every senior season and then an 8 million summer signing for Spurs, it would seem he isnt half bad. Against Ipswich he did look lost out at sea in an unfamiliar right midfieldpositionbut he gradually grew into the game and in the second half was one of our better players. He is quick with nimble feet, seems to have a good tackle and a good cro s as well. What more could you want? And then on Tuesday he was solid and decisive and when he got forward he didnt half rip apart their left side. We have him and Franksy on that wing now and to be DeAndre Hopkins Jersey honest, those two combined can make up for Johnson.
